چکیده

OBJECTIVE : To assess the role of Indirect Haemagglutination Test for the diagnosis of amoebic liver abscess. STUDY DESIGN : Comparative Study PLACE AND DURATION : This study was carried out at Basic medical Sciences Institute, JPMC, Karachi from February 2000 to January 2001. SUBJECTS AND METHODS : Blood samples were obtained from 100 cases of amoebic liver abscess and 100 age matched healthy individuals. Indirect haemagglutination test was performed on the serum to see the titres of antibodies to Entamoeba histolytica. RESULT : Significant antibody titres ranging from 1 : 256 1 : 4096 were observed in confirmed cases of amoebic liver abscess. While titres were non-significant in normal subjects. IHA was found to be 96% sensitive and 100% specific for the serodiagnosis of amoebic liver abscess.

Serodiagnosis of amoebic liver abscess by IHA method.

Serological test based on IHA (Indirect Haemagglutination Method) was performed in 100 cases of hepatic abscess. The test was 100% sensitive and 94% specific. The cut off point of antibody titer between normal population and patients with invasive amoebiasis was 1:128. Antibody titer in amoebic liver abscess was 1:5242 +/- 2795. A significant (P less than 0.001) correlation was found between to...

Detection of Entamoeba histolytica DNA in the Saliva of Amoebic Liver Abscess Patients Who Received Prior Treatment with Metronidazole

Saliva is an easily-accessible and a non-invasive clinical specimen alternate to blood and liver pus. An attempt was made to detect Entamoeba histolytica DNA released in the saliva of amoebic liver abscess (ALA) patients by applying 16S-like rRNA gene-based nested multiplex polymerase chain reaction (NM-PCR). The NM-PCR detected E. histolytica DNA in the saliva of eight (28.6%) of 28 ALA patien...

Protein A-antibody mediated hemagglutination assay for serodiagnosis of amebic liver abscess.

A successful modification of the indirect hemagglutination test to demonstrate antibodies for serodiagnosis of amebic liver abscess has been described in the present study. In the modified test, the protein A-IMA, Staphylococcus aureus (Cowan's strain I) bearing protein A (SAPA) cells were used to enhance hemagglutination of sensitized red cells. Use of SAPA cells markedly enhanced sensitivity ...

Evaluation of Entamoeba histolytica recombinant phosphoglucomutase protein for serodiagnosis of amoebic liver abscess

BACKGROUND Amoebic liver abscess (ALA) is the most frequent clinical presentation of extra-intestinal amoebiasis. The diagnosis of ALA is typically based on the developing clinical symptoms, characteristic changes on radiological imaging and serology. Numerous serological tests have been introduced for the diagnosis of ALA, either detecting circulating amoebic antigens or antibodies. However th...
